Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History (Detroit, Michigan) has supported our education and awareness efforts for the past 3 years. We are fortunate that this initiative is valued as a viable means of preserving our history. Thanks Tyrone Davenport and team.
Dr. Wanda Shurney, DMC Pediatrician & President of the Sicke Cell Association of Detroit informed attendees about the history and significant impact that bone marrow transplants are having on sickle cell patients.
U.S. Congresswoman Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick discussed why she championed this cause and resloution, She engaged the audience in dialogue and Q&A about the critical need to continue this campaign year-round, throughout the country. She committed to continue working alongside ABMW to save lives.
The Lovelace Family of Metro Detroit met the recipient of their 7 year old daughter, Martrell Perry & family from Maryland, via Skype.com (video conferencing) during the campaign kickoff, June 26th.
Martrell registered while a student at Hampton University years ago and answered the call without hesitation to save the life of M. Lovelace! Moms' testimony and gratitude to Martrell created a very emotional moment for all present.
5 individuals were inspired to join the registry on the spot.

Akim DeShay, BlackBoneMarrow.com

So grateful for the partnership and support of the African American Museum of Dallas (Dallas, Texas) & Akiim DeShay, founder of www.BlackBoneMarrow.com.
Visitors were empowered with the powerful conversation of Akiim (bone marrow recipient), Rashan DeShay (Akiim's sister and his bone marrow donor), and Kenny Beavers (bone marrow recipient).
We hope that the number of African American bone marrow transplants by a "relative" increase significantly with the AABMAM Campaign.

Time well spent with the curator's and guests of the APEX. Two large family reunion's learned about the Panoramic Experience. APEX's founder Dan Moore positioned the museum as an official donor site. So, this was a powerful collaboration of education and recruitment.
